Website design: costs

How long will it take, and how much will it cost?

A site can take anywhere between 4 and 12 hours to create, depending on how clear your own ideas are, and whether you already have designs established (such as logos and colouring), or you would prefer me to design these for you.

  • Design and major structural changes to a website are charged at £40 per hour. This is charged on a strictly time-spent basis (no minimum fees) rounded up or down to the nearest quarter-hour.
  • A four-hour project would therefore cost around £160; an 8-hour project around £320.
  • Website hosting is charged at £50 per annum.
  • Updating costs (i.e. additions or amendments of standard text or images within an existing design) are charged at £30 per hour (or 50p per minute). These charges are made on a precise minute basis - often such minor changes can take literally a very few minutes!

What about the domain name?

You will also be charged (at cost) a further small sum for domain name purchase (less than £4 per annum for a .co.uk or .org.uk name - prices vary for different extensions). The "admin contact" for the site will be Working Order, but the legal owner of the domain name will, of course, be yourself.

And in the future?

I will continue to maintain your site as you wish; updates are, where possible, made within 24 hours, and charged at the rates shown above. If you request very small amounts of maintenance during a given year, I will usually hold such costs until the time comes to charge your annual hosting fee.
